AN UPDATE ON MY CONCERN WITH K-LOVE CHRISTIAN RADIO

I have received a response to my expressed concern about K-LOVE Christian Radio having Mike Fisher on their Fan Awards in light of his wife, Carrie Underwood announcing her support for gay "marriage". Below are the K-LOVE president's response and my reply to him.
Dear Pastor,

Thank you for your email and concern about the statements made by Carrie and your questions about her husband, Mike Fisher.   I was unaware of any comments made by his wife and I haven’t found such statements being made by Mike.  The fan awards is a fan experience and they nominate and vote for people of their choice.

As a radio network we approach people and difficult topics with love. I am reminded there are two things the bible tells me to do daily, first it tells me to “take up my cross” and then in Hebrews 3 it tells me to “encourage one another”   Difficult topics I believe need to be approached in love.

Our desire is to minister to as many people as possible with the gospel message.    Jeremiah 29:13 (NIV)   “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart”   Notice Jeremiah uses the word “all”.  We are all called to grow and to seek him with all of our heart.   I think that it so important today to realize! We live in a difficult time and have many topics like this one that we as the church need to be open to more dialogue and discussion.  We need to provide an environment of solid biblical teaching with the spirit of love as our guide.

I appreciate your concern and care in your note. This ministry loves the Lord and strives to do and be the best that it can be in Him.  I am very open to more dialogue please give me a call at 1-800-525-5683.

In His service,

Mike Novak – President/CEO

Hello, Mike.

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my concern. I am sincerely glad to hear from you. I have always appreciated your personal love for the Lord and for people, inspiring your enthusiasm for what you do. I also want you to know that the Lord has often used the ministry of K-LOVE in helping me through some very hard times, with the comfort of Christ-centered music at times being the only comfort I could find. My contacting you on this issue was out of nothing less than deep appreciation and concern for our Lord’s intentions for you and glory in you. If you will bear with me, I would like to acknowledge and respond to the things you said.

To be honest, I am somewhat surprised you were not aware of Carrie’s statements. In one way, that’s a relief, but in another way, that’s troubling. It’s a relief in that there was no outright disregard on your part for the problem that is there. On the other hand, it’s troubling, because with the size of the platform God has blessed you with (“you” being the radio station as a whole), it behooves you to be as educated as possible on the true beliefs and practices of those you allow on that platform, or, to be propped up on that platform, considering the scope of your beneficial influence. I understand that you cannot exhaustively know everything about everyone, but this is very public information regarding very public and popular people. Please believe me, I do not say this with the intention of being critical. I simply believe that there is a very necessary application here of Paul’s admonition, Test everything; hold fast what is good (1 Thessalonians 5:21).

Having said that, I do realize that Mike has not made any direct statements of his own. But in light of Carrie’s clear intention to make her position known, along with their church’s position and their mutual attendance of it, his silence says as much as any statement would. He leaves it safe to conclude that Carrie speaks for both of them.

I also understand that the fans nominate and vote for people of their choice. However, I must take for granted that you would not allow a nomination and vote to go through for someone you knew stood against clear Biblical teaching, regardless of what they claim about their faith.

I also fully agree with you that love is to be our driving motivation - love for God first and love for others second - and that is why I am addressing this. People are perishing in lies they are believing about God and His will, and we the Church cannot silently sit by while they do. And I know you believe that. I do believe that we need to be ready to discuss issues such as this, so long as the discussions are not a way to go around the declarations we must humbly and lovingly, yet, persistently make. Over and over, I have heard and read Christians say how difficult is this issue of homosexuality (along with other issues), but then stop short of dealing with the issue itself in sharing and standing by what God has so clearly said about it. And I am not saying this at a distance from this issue, having a close family member caught up in it.

Mike, you are a very gracious and kind man. I pray I can be as gracious as you in dealing with this and the many other challenges to our faith we face today. May our Lord Jesus, from Whose fullness we have all received grace upon grace and through Whom grace and truth have come (John 1:16 & 17), lead us along very intimately and intentionally in glorifying Him above all as the most loving thing we can do for all.

Congratulations on launching the Fan Awards. May God richly bless them and be greatly glorified in them.

Yours in Christ,

Bela

I came across this conversation while searching for something that was announced on K-love today about Marriage. I just had a desire to share my thoughts after reading this. I do this in the most loving respectful way.
I have only been listening to K-love for 3 months and I feel so connected because of the LOVE factor. I believe Jesus is love and all that we are required to do is show love. In everything, love plays the biggest factor. Love is the center. Jesus is the center.
On gay marriages/relationships, I dont believe one necessarily is okay with it just because their partner is. The fact that they are not in agreement is something I believe they would need to work together on. What I do believe is that we are to show love and by Mike Fisher stating not stating that he doesnt agree with Carrie his wife, does not mean that he does agree with it. We cannot just assume that. I like to look at it from the point of a loving view. Perhaps he is not making a statement because for example, if he doesnt agree with his wife and makes a statement, what does this show the rest of the world? For some, it may possible show something negative. It may push away that one person seeking the Lord. I live in South Africa where gay marriages are legal. I have gay friends. This does not mean I agree with gay marriages or relationships. It means that I love them and I want to show them Jesus through my life. I believe that by showing them love and being an example with my husband together showing them love, welcoming them in our homes, allowing them to find Jesus, they could come to the point where they ask about our beliefs on it. They might feel wow here is a couple that believes in Jesus and they dont judge us? Introducing them to Jesus is a way of love, I believe they will then seek the Lord, read scripture and be convicted by the Word of what is right and what is wrong in Jesus's eyes. I like to use this way in all factors of life.
At the end of the day, do not judge. In any circumstance or any matter. Show love and allow Jesus to use you. If we do this I believe Jesus will do the rest. After all, our strength is not our own, it comes from Him. Jesus is love.

I actually really appreciate that you are willing to stand on your convictions. We don't see much of that now a days, but Carrie's husband being silent is not really proof of his approval. Homosexuality is a huge hot topic now and if someone opposes it they get a lot of persecution. I think his silence could of been evidence of his disapproval also. I have learned that it is very wise to stay silent when you don't like people's views. He doesn't have to agree with Carrie.

I know very little about Carrie Underwood. I did not know about these statements she made, but I have doubted that she is a Christian for other reasons.

I don’t understand how anyone could disagree with gay rights. Being homosexual should be considered just as normal as heterosexuality. Banning gay marriage is basically a way for cisgender heterosexual people to discriminate and insult homosexual people. I’ve never heard a valid reason for why gay marriage should be banned. I feel like most religions normalize hate towards the gay community and it isn’t okay. How much longer will you hide behind your religion until you admit you are just blatantly homophobic? If you see gay people as a threat to you or a disgrace, you clearly don’t have your priorities straight. Out of curiosity I will ask again, why do you deny homosexuals the right to marriage?

Elena, as a Christian we are to be against gay marriage due to the fact that homosexuality is wrong. It is an abomination to the Lord. It is wrong for same sex couples to be married because it is clear that marriage is to be between a man and woman. It makes sense biologically, mentally, naturally, physically, and spiritually. Either your a true Christian who stands against all sin, (which most do, we tend to have to really defend our biblical marriages right now) which is why you will see us standing for truth. If we can live in a reality of truth, then we are wasting time. Marriage is between a man and a woman. Anything else is sickening and sad. If you are pro same sex marriage and think you can be a Christian than you are 110% wrong. If God says that it’s an abomination and he hates sin. Then we too must hate sin. We are having to focus on this one because it’s more prevalent in society because our young ones are going to be out in the world. We need to protect them from the mockery of the same sex marriage has made. You can’t be a water downed Christian. Either you believe what God believes or you don’t. Mike not being able to make a stance proves that his wife is the wearer of the pants in their marriage. If he is the man of their home, she shouldn’t have voiced that opinion, meaning, he lets her speak for the both of them. That doesn’t sound like submission to me. It’s scary to think, that we live in society were Christian’s are willing to lay down their beliefs to fit in with the people who want to not feel judgement. Here is the number one fact. You shouldn’t feel judged if what you believe your doing or how your living is right. They feel judged because their habitual sin lifestyle is being pricked in their hearts from the Lord trying to show them the truth. Sinners shouldn’t feel comfortable still living out the sin in church. They should feel try conviction and get on their knees. It’s a dark world in that culture of sexually sinful people. It’s not natural. You can tell by basic biology that it isn’t natural. If you are basing your ideas of a feelings instead of truth then that is where you are 110% incorrect. Either be a Christian who is going to be bold and stand up for the truth, or stop being a Christian. It is black and white. There are no either sides. Either you serve satan, or you are serving God. No one can serve two masters.

Elaina, yes, it is in black and white in the Bible. But doesn’t the Bible says to love everyone, just as God loves is (John 15:12-13. “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends) and Matthew 7 :: NIV. "Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?

Just because you don’t agree with it doesn’t mean you should act that way. Do all things in love. Be the light and let His light shine through you.

Act what way? Speaking the truth?? Being truthful is showing love. It’s showing biblical love. By showing someone biblical love, the goal is to lead them to salvation. If we truly love people, we will be telling them the truth about their lifestyle. If they feel comfortable in their habitual lifestyle, then it shows that they are truly saved. There is a major difference in judging someone, and telling them the truth. When we start watering down the gospel, we aren’t winning people over to the Lord. We are simply saying, you can keep living sinfully and say you are a Christian. Sinning will happen. However, when you are habitually sinning, then you aren’t truly saved. You cannot be in a same sex marriage and be a Christian. You just can’t. You might be a fantastic person, but ultimately, unless you deny yourself the sins of this world and follow Christ. If we are being the light for Christ, then wouldn’t the sinner give up their sins?? If we are allowing them to keep living the lie of marriage not being just between one man and one woman we are just creating a falsehood of belief. We then become the wolves in sheeps clothing, leading them to destruction. We will all be held accountable for our lives. We will see the false churches being separated from the true bible believing churches. It’s a shame, that as Christian’s, we are being told to basically lie to people. I can’t as a Christian, believe that the Lord would want us to say it’s okay to believe in me and still be a drunk, liar, their, homosexual, fornicator, etc. We come to Him and repent of those sins, and turn away. We are so afraid of the world telling us we are being judge mental, when we are actually still loving them, but not accepting their sin. We can’t accept their sin because God hates sin. If we love and follow God, then we must also hate sin. I know I’ll be held accountable for every sin that I have already sought forgiveness for. I’m aware that some will tell me that I have no right to speak truth to those who need to hear it. I know that I belong to a church that recently preached a sermon on the dangerous perverse society we live in. They said we as Christian’s can’t compromise our beliefs. We can’t share the gospel, if we lie to people. Tell them the truth. If you actively habitually continue to live a life of sin without true repentance(which means you no longer do that sin because to sought forgiveness and TURN away from it) you aren’t truly saved. It’s just so sad that we as Christian’s don’t speak the truth to individuals and instead are assisting satan and walking them down the road of destruction. You are either serving the Lord or Satan in every single thing you do. I pray that whoever sees this post will continue being a bold Christian and look for opportunities to stand up and do what is right. A lot of Christian’s think they are saved because the scriptures have been watered down.

Without discernment a person or organization proclaiming to be a Christian will be influenced by the World System (whom Satin is head) and not Christ (whom God is head). Discernment comes from being truly Born Again in Christ Jesus God's son and then filling yourself with all that is of the true and living God. This includes obeying God's word and commandments contained in scripture (Bible) and living them out (fruit). Discernment is a requirement and not an option. We are not to have close association with anyone or organization that is not Born Again in Christ Jesus as they will have a sinful influence on our walk with Christ. This is even more true for any person or organization that claims to be His but with Biblical discernment is not. For they lead many astray from the Faith.
