1. WE MUST KNOW WHAT GOD IS DOING (ROMANS 8:28)

In multiple passages of Scripture, God gives the assurance that sinners will respond to His gospel and will be fully and finally saved because He sovereignly anchors them to Himself. One of those passages is Romans 8:28-30, and we are going to spend some time here climbing the glorious heights of what God reveals about His sovereignty over all things in the lives of His people, as well as His sovereignty in securing the eternal life of His people. This truth is foundational to our understanding of what God is doing to accomplish and assure us of our salvation. This first message presses on the necessity of being able to say with Paul, "This is what we know about God."

If saved people begin to sin and do not ask for forgiveness and keep on growing in sin, are they still going to be saved? I see in your chain it says predestined. When God talked with David, and Saul was chasing him he asked, is Saul coming for me? Yes. Is Sal going to win in the battle, yes. David fled because of what God said and the future was changed. So can we change the future by being close to God?

Hello, Wanda. Those are great questions.

First, anyone that can continue in sin without being convicted to repent will not be saved in the end, no matter how saved they look to us now. If someone claiming and even appearing to be saved goes into sin and grows in that sin, then that shows that they are not truly in Christ. As John puts it, "This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; 7 but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. (1 John 1:5–7, NASB) So, someone that is truly saved will not go back to a life of sin. If someone does go back to a life of sin and dies unrepentant in their sin, they are not truly saved and never were. No one can live in sin and be saved. And no one saved can live in sin.

Second, I hope you will follow the series all the way through to hear more on this. Here is something for you to think about now, though. From our position in reality, we can change the future, as God tells us to. He gave David two options with a real choice to make. One option would lead to his death, the other to his survival. Yet, from God's position in His sovereignty, He had determined the outcome already. Here is the important point, though. God ordained the means to the end. Now, there is some mystery in how God providentially brings His plans to pass through the means of real choices by human beings, but both truths are clearly stated in Scripture. God predestines, but we have real choices to make.

Think about this and let me know if I can help you further.
