OUR FIRST PURSUIT (MATTHEW 6:24-33)

I believe that life in this nation is both a privilege and a responsibility. I believe that we have been blessed with much to do much with. Therefore, I believe that we must constantly be giving ourselves a spiritual heart checkup to make sure our priorities are what they should be. We come to some sobering, yet joy-filling, words from Jesus to help us do that today.
Picture
24 “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.

25 “For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?
26 “Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they?
27 “And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life?
28 “And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin,
29 yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these.
30 “But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith!
31 “Do not worry then, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’
32 “For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.
33 “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." (NASB)

BLESSED IN THE BATTLE FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS (MATTHEW 5:10-12)

As American Christians, we are in a battle for righteousness in this nation. For the honor and glory of God, and for the good of all people, we must be engaged in pursuing righteousness. And if we are, we can be sure of this: there will be an initial cost, but there will also be an eternal reward.
10 “Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 “Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me.
12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you." (NASB)

GOD LOVES THE ONE WHO PURSUES RIGHTEOUSNESS (PROVERBS 15:9)

God has His own ideas about how people are supposed to live, and He is not indifferent to how people are choosing to live. God has emotions - He has strong feelings - and in His Word here, we see that He has strong feelings about the wicked and for the righteous.
The way of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD, but He loves the one who pursues righteousness. (NASB)

RIGHTEOUSNESS WILL EXALT THIS NATION (PROVERBS 14:34)

7/6/2015

On July 4th, by the grace of God, we celebrated our nation’s 239th birthday. At least for today, by the good will of the Ruler of all nations, America the Beautiful still stands. Under the sovereign hand of God, what is our hope that America will continue to stand? In God’s providence, is there something we can really do - something we can really work for - to ensure that this nation has a future?
Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people. (NASB)
